The Oak Tree Centre is one of the first 'catalyst' projects for a major regeneration strategy for the South Acton Neighbourhood; once one of the largest social housing estates in London. Flexible facilities include a crèche for 25 children and family support space which can be combined to create one large multi-use area with direct access to an external courtyard or playspace at the western extremity of the building. Separate community facilities include a large multi-purpose community hall, a small meeting room, reception area, rentable office suites and a neighbourhood cafe with independent direct external access to the covered timber decked plinth on the eastern facade.
It was anticipated that the Oak Tree Centre would be extended as part of the future phases of the regeneration proposals for the neighbourhood. A linear residential building was proposed to the east of the built scheme with expanded community facilitates located within its base forming a strong definition to the edge of a new landscaped neighbourhood square.
