Harrison Symonds:

Architect & Senior Associate

Qualifications:
BA (Hons), MArch, PGDip. ARB

Harrison is a Senior Associate at Proctor and Matthews Architects, based in the Sheffield studio, where he leads a diverse range of projects across the country. He joined the practice in 2017 following his architectural studies at the University of Sheffield and London Metropolitan University. His academic work was recognised with the RIBA Yorkshire Gold Medal and the John Taylor Award for Urbanism and Town and Regional Planning.

Harrison has played a central role in the regeneration of the Carpenters Estate in Newham, East London, working closely with the local community to develop a masterplan that delivers over 2,000 new and refurbished homes, alongside education, commercial, and community facilities. He also led the estate’s first major phase—James Riley Point—a landmark leisure, sports, and community centre designed to serve the existing and future neighbourhood.

Other recent work includes the design of a flagship modular office building for Homes England in Northstowe. The project combines innovative approaches to formal and informal working environments with references to local heritage and craft traditions.

Harrison has a particular interest in the adaptive reuse of buildings within historically sensitive contexts. He is currently leading the transformation of White Hart Street in Mansfield—a long-derelict site within the Bridge Street Conservation Area—into a vibrant, mixed-use neighbourhood. The scheme brings together new homes, flexible workspaces, community facilities, and commercial premises within a series of retained heritage buildings.

In addition, Harrison is leading the team for a major mixed-use New Town masterplan at Heyford Park in Oxfordshire, which will create 8,000 to 10,000 new homes with commercial, leisure and educational facilities.
