Chapter House has been selected as a Regional Finalist in the 2018 Civic Trust Awards - the awards programme recoginises schemes that improve the built envronment for all through sustainability, inclusiveness and accessibility.
Located within one of Lichfield's important central conservation areas, Chapter House draws inspiration from the city's historic walled gardens and the original cloistered form of the demolished medieval friary which once occupied the site.
Accommodation consists of 38 new apartments and incorporates a number of internal and external facilities which encourage neighbourly interaction between new residents and locals, and will hopefully over time, help to nurture a sense of community, security and belonging.
The sequence of spaces around the building (including the incorporation of the existing Monk's Walk landscaped garden - an amenity space maintained by existing local residents) will help to create a safe leisurely 'exercise' circuit for older residents.
