Stephen Proctor was amongst a panel of judges at the 2016 RIBAJ Sterling OSB Habitat Awards.
The competition, inspired by Moshe Safdie’s Habitat 67 development asked architects to look at the potential for SterlingOSB’s product to inform the debate on affordable inner-city housing by submitting proposals for schemes successfully utilising the material.
The winning design by MawsonKerr Architects was both simple and materially robust incorporating an interchangeable low-rise system build with courtyards, roof gardens and living space that could be expanded up as well as across.
Sarah Wigglesworth Architects ‘Stepping Stone Home’ was named runner-up. “We liked the upbeat, colourful and engaging presentation of this entry and the optional site layout arrangements, which extend the ideas of shared community space, and demonstrate the versatility of the design concept for challenging urban sites.” Stephen Proctor
Congratulations to all involved and MawsonKerr Architects on their winning design.
