This project for Christian charity Oasis is a mixed-use building containing residential accommodation alongside the charity’s parliament, conference facilities for 1000 delegates, public spaces, a library, and office accommodation. The site’s pivotal location within the Waterloo area led to the creation of a central hub for those living close by and working for Oasis.
The design proposed to construct a simple yet dramatic cityscape silhouette incorporating a townscape cluster of taller built elements that could deliver a scale relevant to the surrounding context. These structures of differing heights were designed with facades of perforated skin; providing a subtle filter of light creating a dappled play of sunlight that combines aesthetic, environmental and pragmatic design requirements.
