We are excited to have 2 new temporary new colleagues, Idris and Louis from The Elmgreen School whilst they gain work experience at Proctor and Matthews.
With architect Noelia as his mentor, Idris was set the task of designing a summer house for her family of five and visiting parents. Using Noelia’s interest in Japanese architecture as a starting point Idris got to grips with modelling his design in SketchUp. Speaking about his time spent at the practice he described how the week has taught him the importance of communication and collaboration during the design process as well as balancing the functional aspects of the design with the aesthetics.
Louis was also given the brief of designing a summer retreat by his mentor Vainius - this time on the site of one of the studio's current projects - Tweedbank in the Scottish Borders. The summer house required space to accommodate 2 people, a workshop and an area for quiet reflection. Louis' design maximised views of the landscape through the use of glass and provided flexible living space with folding furniture.
We wish them the best of luck with the rest of their studies!
