Planning permission has been secured for a £62.5million mixed use development in Sowerby Bridge, near Halifax designed by Proctor and Matthews for Genr8 Developments.
The mixed use scheme on a brownfield site in the Copley Valley will deliver 215 family homes and in excess of 230,000 sq. ft of employment, leisure and community uses in a fantastic waterside setting.
Genr8 has been developing the scheme in partnership with Yorkshire Forward and Calderdale Council since 2009 and has secured £6.25m of public sector investment to assist with the delivery of key site infrastructure.
Genr8 Partner Richard Ingham commented “This is a key milestone in the delivery of this landmark development for Calderdale. The project will deliver significant investment in the area with the potential 600 new jobs and the high quality family homes. This fantastic island site benefits from both river and canal aspects and we are particularly excited about the proposed new nature reserve which we will deliver real benefits to the local community.
Urban Initiatives (masterplanning) and Proctor and Matthews (architecture) have jointly developed the masterplan on behalf of Genr8 with Arup leading on engineering issues.
Work will commence on site in August with a 12 month contract to deliver key infrastructure works including replacement canal and river bridges and remediation.
