Proctor and Matthews have been invited to join an international list of architectural practices for the inaugural Moscow Architecture Biennale. The theme of the Biennale is "Kak Zhit / Ways of Living" and is focused on the question of mass housing. This issue has become extremely important in Russia, not at least because of soaring housing prices that are now among the highest in the world. This is the result of a growing demand for housing from the middle class and a stagnating housing production. Since there are no other low-cost alternatives, there is a revival of the construction of uniform Soviet-style pre-cast concrete panel housing. The aim of the Biennale is show best practices in how the question of mass housing is solved in other parts of the world, and that with the involvement of architects it is possible to create a rich and differentiated urban environments.
