Horsted Park - a mixed use development by Proctor and Matthews Architects in Kent, has been shortlisted in the 2012 Housing Design Awards.
Horsted Park has been designed for Countryside Properties and a first phase is currently being built on the site of the former Mid-Kent College in Horsted. The development will contain community and retail facilities, and a number of Extra Care homes for elderly people. The first phase contains 153 homes, and is part of a larger project containing over 300 homes.
Proctor and Matthews conceived Horsted Park as a series of "farmsteads" based on the local vernacular architecture. Houses will be arranged around a series of squares and courtyards and will use traditional materials. Around 30% of the site will be dedicated green space.
The Housing Design Awards are organised by Design for Homes and are awarded in recognition of projects that demonstrate excellence and sustainability in home design. The 2012 awards will be presented on 20 June at a ceremony in London.
