Hargood Close has won the Richard Feilden Award for Housing at the 2013 Housing Design Awards.
The Housing Design Awards are given every year and recognise the highest standards in housing design in the UK. The Richard Feilden Award is awarded to the best social housing scheme, and is made by the Homes and Communities Agency in memory of Richard Feilden OBE (1950-2005), who championed the highest standards in architecture and had a strong commitment to environmentally friendly design in both housing and public buildings.
Hargood Close in Colchester provides high quality temporary housing for homeless people in Colchester, and is managed by Family Mosaic in partnership with the homelessness team at Colchester Borough Council. The development's 35 units are arranged around a series of courtyards, inspired by historic almshouses and - like their historic predecessors - provide high quality, flexible and dignified accommodation for vulnerable people in a comfortable and domestic environment. Proctor and Matthews' scheme completed earlier this year, and is seen as a centre of excellence for the provision of accommodation and support services for homeless people.
