One year on from the launch of Distinctively Local - a collaboration with Pollard Thomas Edwards, PRP and HTA Design - we are looking back at the report's guidance. Initially published in response to the government's 'Building Better, Building Beautiful' agenda, the report highlights successful examples of rural housing developments as well as guidance which will be even more relevant to the design of new neighbourhoods in a post-pandemic environment.
The current pandemic has focussed minds on the importance of community and the environments needed to support a new spirit of neighbourliness. Connectivity, a strong relationship to landscape, healthy places for exercise and relaxation and homes that can adapt to our changing patterns of daily life are all characteristics which make distinctive and liveable places, and nurture a strong sense of community and identity. All these seem even more important in the design of our new neighbourhoods.
