Associate Husam AlWaer Elected as Chartered Fellow of the RTPI

We are pleased to announce that Associate Husam AlWaer has been elected a Chartered Fellow of the Royal Town Planning Institute (FRTPI). Fellowship is the Institute’s highest professional designation and is awarded to only 1% of its membership.

Husam’s election recognises his sustained contribution to planning practice, research and education, and his commitment to shaping resilient and equitable places. His work continues to bridge academia and industry, encouraging thoughtful, long-term approaches to urbanism.

Proctor & Matthews is also proud to celebrate Husam’s achievement as the first Syrian scholar to be elected a Chartered Fellow of the RTPI — a milestone that reflects not only his professional contribution but also his remarkable personal journey.

Husam said: "For me, becoming a Fellow of the RTPI is not only an esteemed recognition but also a call to action—a responsibility to help shape better places that foster resilience, equity, and well-being for communities in the UK and worldwide.

Fellowship is about looking ahead: championing innovation, nurturing future talent, and ensuring that planning continues to make a positive difference in an ever-changing world.

On a personal level, this honour inspires me to keep pushing boundaries, building partnerships, and contributing to a profession that transforms lives and landscapes for generations to come."
